50 attempts and I still cant get the best ending, Esteban still needs to find his love for painting but I cant do that without the war happening, I know I'm missing something but I don't know what, just a single hint is all I need
It's been a year since I last played this game but suddenly it popped into my memory and I've been thinking about it for two days. That's how long it took for me to need to scratch the itch again. Time to add to my existing 37 hours of play time...
i got an ending i was pretty happy with on my 13th loop, and it was really beautiful i loved it (married esteban, friends with myka and suzette who married tereza).
but i discovered there were other possibilities, such as stopping the war from happening or becoming a scout with gemma… is there a walkthrough or something? i’m now on my 37th loop and i’ve stopped the war several times but i’m forced to go south every time. is there a way to stop the war while still staying in Elaia?
Well to give you some hints, it requires you to find out why the war happened to begin with. States don't exactly declare war for no reason at all, after all. And it would require fixing that issue.
As a hint on how to fix it, it involves understanding that Elaia's past has consequences to the present and a willingness to do what is good even if it's going to be treasonous.
i mean, i was able to stop the war many times, with some various people. i just keep getting forced to move south permanently because i had to do robbery and stuff for the relics to heal the south
Okay, go the Historian Route when you do your attempt to heal the South. Jo knows how to pull it off in a way that doesn't tip off anyone about the fact that artifacts got stolen until it is too late. It also helps with Sussie's issues so you won't have to worry about her causing an incident. You can still go South if you want, but you can definitely return home in this version.
Amazing game. I spent days taking various routes and meeting so many characters until I finally had all the information I needed and wanted for my desired outcome, and I finally did it, after around 20 loops, I managed to save everyone and it was the best feeling I've gotten from any game in years. The subtle changes in the scenes over all the loops and such were really good and I could truly feel our exhaustion weighing on us the longer we kept going, and I got to know so many of the characters and their personal troubles that made me really care about getting the best possible ending for all of their sake. I wonder how this all came to be in the first place, if Jo was truly the origin or if someone else passed on the duty to stop the comet like they did to us, either way, I am happy to have successfully helped everyone I could. What an amazing game.
IM GONNA SCREAMMM, YOU HAVE CAPTURED THE ESSENCE OF THE PUZZLE SOLVING IN OUTER WILDS AND PUT IT IN SOMETHING FRESH. plus it has a happier ending. (the one i got was anyway)
thank you for such a beautiful story and game. it makes me want to create again, write again, and just overall make something that moves people the way that this moved me. i dunno if you're still creating, but if you are, i'm looking forward to what's to come :) <3
amo questo gioco. ci penso ancora dopo tanti anni. ho raggiunto il mio finale perfetto con myka, e il file di salvataggio sta ancora sul mio desktop <3
loved this so much! 15 rounds, 4 AM to 6 AM and it was so worth it! also, are you ok with people posting fanart/fancomics of this game (with credit of course)?
i can’t remember… exactly how i got there, but after many, many hours of playing this game again today lol, i managed the golden ending in just nine runs — i never stopped to talk to the three villagers, though. i figured out archaic, and the gem stuff and everything early-ish on, so i spent a couple of my runs just repeating stuff and waiting for the game to offer me the opportunity to head for the south. at the start of the eighth run, i was finally offered to leave for the south, and then i got to learn about the plague on their land. so for the ninth run i managed to burn suzette’s reference docs, take the history track after stealing the phoenix gem during graduation, and jo and i banished veris and then used the relics to help the south. after that i chose to go back home and managed to reconnect with mostly everyone! my only regret is that i didn’t connect enough with esteban in this last run, so he never got back into painting, although i just went back to my save file and that was easy to rectify by just choosing to speak to him a bit more in the last run. i used to play this game often a few years ago, and so it’s been really comforting and lovely to rediscover it recently. i love the characters, the setting, and the writing, and how immersive the world is. it really feels like you learn new things about yourself and how your life impacts others as you play, and i love that it has such a wider, profound meaning too.
i also love how much of effort and care was put into this? as someone who kinda played as they talk in real life, i’d occasionally chose another (small) different choice, and it was really fascinating to see how this would take me to the same point or in a somewhat different direction! i love that it’s better to be kind and better to try, but it’s also better to apologise and make mistakes than not do anything at all. a comment i saw on here about two years ago put it perfectly — that ‘living’ in someone else’s life, over and over, really provides maybe the most ‘outsider’ perspective you can ever have on how your own life and the lives of others are shaped by your actions, your kindness. it really feels like ‘zooming out’ in the best way possible… in a world that makes it very difficult to find hope and meaning, this is such an antidote to the lack of both of those things. i love this game so much :)
two questions, for anyone else that’s played this a couple times — does anyone know if you can leave for the south earlier than your eighth run (and if so, how?), and if it’s possible to change your gender at the start of each life instead of just at the start of the game? (coming from a genderfluid person who doesn’t usually ‘shift’ gender very quickly and so doesn’t mind just sticking with one descriptor, but would love if it was possible to b a bit more flexible)
This is such a sweet comment, thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the game, especially enough to come back to it.
To answer your questions, the "head for the hills" option is locked behind life seven or eight (I'd have to go glance at the code to check which); I wanted a buffer to let the protagonist get properly exhausted/done before that option appeared.
There isn't a way right now to change your gender throughout the gameplay, but it's a great idea. If I ever do a version 2.0 for Stay?, that would be a good add!
Did some runs and found that you can get a "Elaia wins the War" Ending under 10 loops but the minimum for the Golden Ending is 10 considering you need to actually travel south personally. Although I do admit that I haven't checked if there are other ways to get the Golden Ending
Anyway loved this game and everything about it. The characters are likable, the endings are diverse, the world-building is interesting, and when you actually manage to save everyone it feels incredibly satisfying.
Run that I ended up staying is 11 loops because I wanted to meet the village people before saving everyone.

Thank you! I’m so glad you enjoyed the experience— it was so fun to write.

Absolutely!! Fan art fills me with joy and gratitude — if you do post, send me a link!
this was absolutely amazing! i played 30 or so rounds just enjoying every second of it.
Thank you so much, I’m so glad!

I think you're right on that one! Around ten is the fastest you can get the Golden Ending, from what I recall.
